I just bought my house in Sugar Land, TX (near Houston), and I have no idea what some of the plants in my new garden are. How would I go about having them identified so that I can care for them properly?

Unfortunately we are not able to receive digital photos in our Q&A system.

I suggest you take digital photos of cut of sections of shoots and take them (or e-mail photos) to your County Extension Office for help in getting the proper names of the plants. Their contact info is:
