| Pepper plants should be watered deeply once or twice a week during the hottest months of the summer, depending upon your soil type. Sandy soils dry out faster than clayey soils and well amended soils hold water for an extended period of time. So your best approach is to water as you normally do, wait 3-4 days, then dig down near the root system to see how moist the soil is. If it is still moist 2-3 inches below the surface, you won't have to water; if it is dry 2-3" below the surface, it is time to water. Yellowing leaves at the bottom of your pepper plant might be normal or it could indicate over-watering. As long as the plant is putting out new growth at the top of the plant, yellowing leaves on the lower half shouldn't be a concern. If the entire plant is yellowing, it either needs feeding or you need to adjust your watering so the soil has a chance to dry out slightly between waterings.
