| Help! I have 3 Skip Laurels in their first year at my home at the base of a newly sodded hill. All 3 receive at least 5 hrs of full sun daily. While I can find no sign of bug infestion, they have each developed brown leaves that have become 'crisp' and will shatter in my hands. Early in the season I use a good systemic product recommended at your store... and the Crepe Myrtes beside the laurels are thriving! I water my hillside about 3 times a week & there is a bit of run-off water... but the hill is rather steep, so I am doubtful about too much watering of the laurels.... Any ideas? By the way, I have chopped off the deadened parts and 2 of the bushes are trying hard to come back! How can I help! |
| Pat, You will need to dig down into the soil around the plants to feel the soil. The key is to keep it moist and with the many factors of soil type, sun or shade, slope, etc. it is difficult to say how often you need to water. The fact that the plants are crispy is not a good sign and their recover is in doubt. That said all that is in your power at this point is to try and avoid too dry or soggy wet while you see whether or not they are going to pullout of this.
