The Q&A Archives: azalea

Question: I bought an azalea the same time I bought the dogwood tree. It also looks like it is dying. What can I do?

Answer: It's really difficult to determine just what might be wrong with your azalea. Some azaleas like sunshine and some prefer shade so maybe it's not getting enough or getting too much sun where you have it. As with most landscape trees and shrubs, well draining soils are important as is adequate water. Usually one inch per week will be all your azalea needs. Try deep soaking once each week to help it through the transition from nursery pot to garden. Also try to find out whether it needs more sun or more shade and move if necessary.

Good luck with your garden!
