| One hydrangea got 3 blooms this year and one did not get any at all. Does this mean it is time to get rid of them, or could bad pruning be at fault? I don't remember when or if I did it, and it would have been late fall or early winter when I got around to it. Please give me some pruning tips for these shrubs! |
| I wouldn't toss them out just yet. Hydrangeas flower best when they get 4 hours of morning sunshine. They produce flowering stems from the old wood so the best time to prune is in the spring, just as the leaf buds begin to swell on the stems. At that time cut everything down to about knee level. The new shoots that develop on what is remaining of the old wood will produce flowers. Enjoy your garden! |
