We live in Magnolia,Tx and are wondering why our beautiful huge cantaloupes have no flavor. They fall off the vine and are huge and beautiful yet art not sweet in the least. What is wrong and how do we correct this?

Cantaloupe flavor is mostly affected by variety but sometimes excessive irrigation (or too much rain) can cause the fruits to become bloated which will make you think they are ripe, but they really are not. Why not try placing the fruit on the kitchen counter for a few days? This will help it mature and become more flavorful with it being able to take up any more water. It may improve the flavor. The only other suggestion is to water less frequently and hope it doesn't rain a lot while the fruits are forming.
