Does it take a root system from the plant to make the water to siphon to the top of the box, and is the box good for root veggies?

The Earth Box works with a capillary action - water is absorbed by the potting mix and is evenly distributed until the mix is saturated. It holds just the right amount of moisture to nourish the roots of your plants and the moisture that is drawn up to the surface evaporates, which causes the potting mix to continually draw up moisture from the water trough on the bottom of the box. The box will be fine for both root veggies and those with above-ground parts.
