i have cucumbers growing from garden bed out onto grass....i get some nice ones.....but sometimes i have ones that are green on top.... yellow on bottom...is this due to laying in grasss? should i have them hanging....climbing....etc.....fence or lattace....i spin them so the yellow side is up to get sunlight....help i love my cucumbers |
Yes, the yellow part is due to laying on the ground. Cucumber plants will sprawl but they'd much rather climb up a lattice or some netting so the fruits are high and dry. The flavor will be the same for those with yellow tummies, but they won't look as nice as the solid green ones. (Twisting the cucumbers isn't a good idea - you could stop the flow of moisture and nutrients and they won't ripen completely.) |
