I just bought a bareroot semi-dwarf Stella cherry tree. When I plant it do I need to add any fertilizer to the soil? |
Your cherry tree needs some time to become established before it begins to grow, and it's best to fertilize plants only when they're actively growing. Dig a $10 hole for a $5 plant, place the tree in at the level it has been growing, making sure the roots are spread out rather than cramped, and backfill with native, not amended soil. Water the tree well, and make sure it gets an inch of water per week all summer. By next spring it should be established and ready to be fed. |
