Is it necessary to keep cucumbers and cantelope apart; i.e., will they cross-pollinate if planted in close proximity?

Cucumbers (Cucumis sativus) and melons (Cucumis melo) are in different species of the same genus Cucumis. Therefore, they will not cross-pollinated each other and can be grown side by side without any concern in saving the seed. Just be sure the cucumberor melon variety you save the seed from is open pollinated variety and not a hybrid.
