The Q&A Archives: tulip blubs

Question: I found a box with some tulip blubs from last year, will they be alright to plant this year? The tulips from them this year were beautiful infact many of our neighbor thought they were silk tulips!
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Tressa Mendoza from Pueblo West. Colorado

Answer: Tulip bulbs are basically storage organs and as the bulb sits in a box the energy stored in each bulb will degrade. There's no guarantee the bulbs will sprout if you plant them now, but they definitely will not survive another year out of the ground. I'd think positive thoughts and plant them this fall. With any luck at all they will sprout next spring. Let's hope so!
