Hi! We just purchased a home where we have a nice yard. Up to now, we have had all plants and trees in pots. We want to plant our yard strategically (outside the pots!) Without hiring a landscaper, can you guide and direct us to |
I think you're wise in choosing just the right plants for your landscape and setting the nursery pots in and around your landscape until you're satisfied with the look of the landscape. There are lots of evergreen shrubs you can use to both soften the lines of the fence and to add height and seasonal color. Here are a few of my favorites: Abelia x grandiflora (Glossy Abelia), grows to about 6'; appreciates moist, well drained soil and will grow in sun to part shade. Flowers in summer (white or pink). Aesculus parviflora (Bottlebrush Buckeye), grows 8-12' in sun to partial shade. White flowers in summer. Aronia arbutifolia (Red Chokeberry), grows to 6' in sun to partial shade. White flowers in spring. Berberis julianae (Wintergreen Barberry), grows 6-8' in sun to partial shade; fragrant yellow flowers in spring. Buddleia davidii (Butterfly Bush), grows 10-12' but can be kept smaller with annual pruning. Grows best in full sun and blooms from spring through fall. Callicarpa japonica (Japanese Beautyberry) grows 6-8' in sun to partial shade. Has white to pink flowers in summer and beautiful violet purple berries in the fall. Cornus sericea (Redosier Dogwood), grows 7-9' in sun to partial shade. Has blood red stems, white flowers in spring and reddish purple fall color. I'm sure there are dozens of other possibilities for your landscape. Why not visit your local garden center or nursery and see what appeals to you? Best wishes with your landscape! |
