The Q&A Archives: Potato Tomato Plant

Question: I have heard about a tomato and potato plant cross. Is there really such a plant? If there is where can a person obtain them.

Answer: Both potatoes and tomatoes are members of the nightshade family, so it is possible to graft a tomato plant stem onto a potato plant stem. But, neither plant will perform to its full potential. The cross is more of a curiosity than anything else. They aresometimes available through mail order; check the inserts of your Sunday newspapers for the occasional offerings.
