Answer: Most of the new growth on your crabapple tree will be produced every year in the spring. Since you planted it at that time, I suspect the tree is busy getting its roots established rather than concentrating on top growth. You shold see lots of new topgrowth next spring. As for the the suckers that are sprouting at the base of the tree, you can cut them off or pull them out. Crabapples tend to sucker. they would prefer to grow as a shrub rather than a tree.
