I'm a disabled veteran and don't have a lot of space and I have been wondering about this tpye of garden as I have troublewith bending and stooping over along with the space problem. My main thing is what tpye of problems are there with this, and what type of plants would be the best for this (the area I have is 2 4'x12' spots) good light morning thur mid aftrenoon. I am planning to build the beds 2' high with a weed bairrer covering the bottom, sealing the sides, and I have been trying to figure out if I should install a drip watering system or not. I also have a smaller place that I was thinking about using for strawberries and aspergrass. Any help you can give to keep me from making any costly mistakes will help, as I am some what new to gardening not completly but in this lower south what you can plant and what will mak it to harvest is totaly different, so any help about what I need to do, plant, when to plant would help greatly.
Thank You

Bryan,

The square foot technique works just fine. Your plan for raised beds is a good one. I suggest killing all weeds in the area (especially any bermudagrass) with a product containing glyphosate (such as Roundup) prior to building the garden beds.
The following web site provides information on when to plant vegetables in your area. It is from Travis County but is very applicable to your area in Temple too.
