No one seems to sell crab grass killer at this time of year, except for the spray (which is impracticle given how much crab grass I have). | Crabgrass is really difficult to eradicate once it is up and growing. Any chemical that will kill crabgrass will also kill your lawn. Hand digging is the best way to eliminate it in the summer months, but that doesn't sound too practical in your situation. Since crabgrass is an annual, it will die out when the weather cools down. At that time I would rake it out of the lawn and then overseed to cover any bare areas. If you treat your lawn with a pre-emergent in the early spring, the seeds the crabgrass left behind won't germinate and next year your lawn should be crabgrass-free. Your best defense against weeds is a thick, healthy lawn so be sure to water and mow regularly and put your lawn on a regular feeding schedule to keep it lush and thick.
