| I have several trees that I would like to transplant, when is the best time to do that? I also have a lilac bush that is about 3yrs. old and has never really bloomed like it should, what can I do so that it blooms every year and when is the best time to transplant it as well, and where is the best location to put it. thank you lori |
| If you avoid the heat of summer and the frozen soils of winter, you can transplant most any time. I'd replant in the fall when temperatures are cooler and rainfall abundant. This will help your plants re-establish their root systems without the stress of also trying to grow more leaves. Lilacs grow best in full sunshine and they'll flower best in full sun, too. If yours has not yet flowered, either the growing conditions are not quite right or it is not mature enough to flower. Lilacs produce flower buds during the summer months which they open the following spring so don't prune your lilacs from mid-summer on so you don't accidentally cut off potential flower buds. After transplanting your trees and shrubs be sure to water them well to help settle the soil and continue watering once each week until fall rains can take over for you.
