Our property borders a not so neat neighbor so we are looking for a fast growing hedge that can survive with little sun since it will be placed in an area with lots of trees above it. Do you know of a few that can survive NJ's diverse weather?

I believe Aucuba japonica will work well for you - it's evergreen and appreciates shade, and can compete in such environments. I do suggest patience, though, because speed of growth is relative. To help your hedge grow at its best, feed and water it lovingly during the first couple of years. There are many ornamental varieties of Aucuba available - check them out at a local nursery this spring! Hope this helps.
