The Q&A Archives: best time to plant a new tree?

Question: Heard that the best planting time for trees is in the fall. Is this true for most all trees?

Answer: You can plant trees and shrubs at almost any time of the year. I'd avoid frozen soils and the heat of summer, but other than that, you should be able to successfully plant a landscape tree most any time. The benefits of planting in either spring or fall is that's when temperatures are cool and rainfall abundant, both of which will help the tree's roots establish quickly and lessen transplant shock.

Good luck with your new trees!
