We have an extremely large, but beautiful, butterfly bush that is far too large for the area where it is. How is best way and time to transplant it. We live in central Indiana. Should we wait until spring to do this?

Since we generally prune butterfly bushes in the spring, that would be the best time to reduce its size and transplant. If you prune now and then move it, the plant will put out new growth, which will die back in the winter. Rather than have the plant expend its energy producing new growth now, wait until spring.
