Before I put it in the ground it was covered with kumquats, but it hasn't produced since. What am I doing wrong? Does it need cross pollenation. | The best times to plant are in the spring and in the fall. This is because the weather is cool and rainfall usually abundant. Both factors will help the roots of your tree establish quickly. You can plant your apple tree now. If you have bulbs that have been sitting around for 2 years, they probably won't grow well. Bulbs are storage organs and if they are out of the ground for more than a few months, the energy they have in storage will be depleted to the point that the bulbs won't be able to grow and flower. I'd toss the old bulbs and plant healthy new ones. Kumquat trees need lots of sunshine and lots of water. Kumquat trees are self-pollinating so you need only one tree to have fruit. Butterfly bushes should be pruned in the early spring just as new growth begins. You can routinely cut it back to near ground level or simply remove one half or one third of the shrub to encourage lots of new flowering stems. Enjoy your garden! |
