I would like to plant a privacy hedge close to a septic tank. Don't know for sure the exact location, about 10-15 ft. from where we would plant the hedge. Would arborvitae be OK? Or could you suggest another plant. Thank you Lilly from Milton

Emerald Green Arborvitae and Green Giant Thuja are both popular hedging plants in your gardening region. The roots should be confined to the general area of the plant, reaching slightly further than the outermost tips of the branches. If you're concerned about them reaching out too far, you can plant Thuja pyramidalis which maintains a 2-3' width but grows quite tall. Hope this information is helpful!
