I have planted only one date palm. Do I need another for fruit? A neighbor 3 blocks away has several mature ones with fruit. Same question with a pecan tree. No others in area. Thanks, Don Davis

There are male and female date palm trees. Females produce fruit but they need the assistance of a male tree. Since your neighbor is getting fruit on his trees, you should, too. Palms are wind pollinated and it only takes one male per 45-50 trees. The same is true of pecan trees. There are separate male and female trees. If there are no pecan trees growing in your neighborhood you'll need to plant one male and one female pecan tree.

Best wishes with your trees!
