The Q&A Archives: Good and Bad Companion Plants

Question: I've been researching good / bad companion plants and find that some sites say yes to planting broccoli and lettuce next to each other and others say no. Please give me some of your expert advice as to what do to here.

Answer: There are dozens of theories as to why some veggies make good companions and others do not. Mostly the opinions have to do with which plants deplete and which nourish the soil, which attract beneficial insects and deter destructive insects, which have similar requirements for water and nutrients, etc. Reseach has shown that the following plants make good companions:
