| I have several perennials in pots that I intend to leave outdoors..2 are winter bloomers,Pink Heather and 1 will be dormant, Foxglove. Will the roots be more likely to freeze in above ground containers? I live near Detroit. Thank-you, Suzanne McFalls 1st year gardener |
| You're absolutely right! The roots of containerized plants are much more susceptible to cold than plants in the ground. You can either sink the containers into the soil somewhere in your garden, or you can wrap the containers in insulating material to keep them from freezing solid. Either way, the plants should be fine over the winter. |
