Would like a shrub(s) for a flower bed with 4-6 ft of space. These would be planted in front of window with medium to full afternoon sun. The shrub should probably not grow to over 2 1/2 foot, but could trim if needed, and roots are in sandy soil. I would like something that comes back every year and can withstand the Texas freezes and the hot Texas summers, also possibly something that blooms. Thanks for your opinions.

Brandy,
That is a difficult set of criteria for any plant. I suggest either a dwarf yaupon or prostrate type of juniper although they would not bloom. Another option is to plant a Carolina jessamine and shear it to form a low shrub.
