Answer: Wildlife are attracted to "edges" - those places where woods and meadow meet, so offer them a mixed planting of shrubs that will give them cover all year long, as well as providing something to snack on: serviceberry (shad), highbush cranberry, hemlock, white cedar, winterberry holly, and dogwoods (pagoda, silky and red osier) all grow well in the conditions you've mentioned.
