The Q&A Archives: planting Leland Cypress

Question: Was able to buy Leland Cypress and no water is available on property till Oct. 14-16th, can they survive in their pots till then? They are being watered now. Thanks, Betty

Answer: Unless there is about an inch of rain per week, I wouldn't count on your Leyland cypresses surviving for a month without water. I'd either haul in water to keep them well hydrated or keep them elsewhere so they can be watered on a regular basis. Plants in containers can dry out quickly, especially in hot sunshine, so checking them frequently and watering as necessary is about the only way of knowing for sure that they are getting the moisture they require. Best wishes with your new trees!
