the recent rain has killed my tomatoe plants. There are tomatoes left on the vines. Will they ripen if I leave them on the dead vines? What can I do with the green tomatoes?

I would pull the entire tomato plant and hang it upside down in an airy place, out of direct sunshine. The tomatoes will ripen if they were nearly ripe when the plants died. Look for dark shoulders on the fruits. These will turn red eventually. If the fruits are the same color green from top to bottom, they won't ripen but can still be processed into pickled green tomatoes. Best wishes with your tomato plants.
