The Q&A Archives: Plants for SW Florida

Question: I live in SW Florida, I would like to plant Lilac. Will it surive the weather here? I don't want to kill it.

Answer: Toni,
Lilac just can't take your southern climate. Crape myrtles are considered the "lilac of the south" although I'll grant you that they don't have the wonderful fragrance. But there are many other fragrant plants that you can grow in your Florida landscape.
