I have a very narrow area along a fence lot line, about 2-3 feet, facing west, which I would like to screen to gain some privacy. I need a height of at least 6-8 feet or more in this narrow area and would prefer a year round screen. I'm in zone 5.Trees or shrubs are okay . The length of the planting area is 90 feet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For such as narrow area, to provide year-round cover I'd choose a tall evergreen. Some types to look for in your area are tall-forms of arborvitae, 'Skyrocket' junipers and pyramidal yews. These all can be pruned to stay tall and thin and will grow in a cramped location. They should all be available locally.
