The Q&A Archives: protecting very young peach tree from winter weather

Question: about a month ago i transplanted a peach tree I started from seed it is a year old and about two feet tall how can I protect it from the harsh winter weather I have it surrounded now with bark about 6in thick and twice the distance around the tree

Answer: For additional protection, place a cylinder made of chicken wire or hardware cloth around the tree and fill the cylinder with insulating material (shredded leaves, or other light and fluffy organic material). This will keep the wind from dessicating the tree and the winter sun from cracking the bark of the tree.

Best wishes with your little peach tree!
