| In your gardening region roses are usually pruned in December. If you can't wait, you can do it now. If you are growing standard hybrid rose bushes you can prune everything down to about knee level. The choose the strongest, healthies 3-5 canes and completely remove all the others. Then, on the 3-5 canes remaining, you can cut each to an outside facing bud in the direction you want the new growth to take. when you have finished pruning you should have a vase-shaped plant and the new growth should be directed outward, leaving the center of the plant open. This will encourage good air circulation and good sunlight penetration which should result in lots of flowers. Enjoy! |
