A friend gave me all her Peoneys and I split them and have replanted them - when or should I cut them back for the winter?

Leave the tops on the plants until frost kills them back then cut the dead stalks and foliage off at ground level. New growth will appear in the spring after the soil warms. Enjoy your new peonies!
