| I know it gets very windy and cold here in the winter so what do I have to do to make shure they dont fall over or die?And during spring what should I use to fertilze them with? |
| You can stake young fruit trees to keep them from blowing over during wind storms. Use 3 stakes, an equal distance from one another for each tree. Secure the trunk of the tree to each stake using one tie per stake and keeping the tension equal on all 3 sides. I use plastic ties or ropes with pieces of rubber hose to protect the trunks of my trees. The ties should be firm but not too tight. Be sure to check the ties every few months and loosen them if necessary so they don't cut into the bark. Your trees should be able to stand on their own after their second winter in the ground so plan on removing the stakes and ties at that time. Fruit trees will be happy with a slow release fertilizer. I use an 8-8-8 ratio of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium on my trees. It rarely gets to freezing in Sierra Vista so your fruit trees should be fine. Best wishes with your trees! |
