My first suggestion is a dwarf burning bush. It's a shade tolerant plant with long narrow leaves that turn reddish bronze in the fall. Seeds are pink and flower-like, making it an attractive plant in late summer.

You might also consider a dwarf Nandina (heavenly bamboo) or a Silver Spirea. A good perennial with purple leaves that does well in shade is Corydalis flexuosa 'Purple Leaf'.

Hope these suggestions are helpful!
