The Q&A Archives: lemon tree

Question: I got my lemon tree last week and alot of the leaves are falling off but they are not dead so is there something I need to do?

Answer: I'm sure it's alarming to you to find fallen leaves but it may not mean anything at all. Citrus trees are evergreen, meaning they retain their leaves year around. However, the oldest leaves eventually live out their usefulness and are dropped by the tree in favor of developing healthy new leaves. This is the time of year when those old leaves are shed. So, if the new growth looks fine and the fallen leaves are from the interior or lowest part of the tree, there is nothing to worry about.
