I have a purple plum tree (exact name I am unsure)that has been planted for two years now and is barely growing. Mind you, I bought it on clearance and it was the Charlie Brown X-mas tree - healthy but very small. Is this a slow growing tree or should I be giving it more than the standard Miracle-Grow slow release fertilizer?

Although it seems as though it is taking forever for your purple leaf plum tree to grow, it's probably normal. Some purple leaf plums are excruciating slow to establish and to show new growth. As long as it looks healthy, I think it's just fine. Since your tree was stressed when you bought it, and was probably further stressed when you planted it, you'll have to expect its recovery to be slow. However, with the excellent care you're giving it, I suspect it will eventually rebound and you'll see some healthy new growth. In the meantime, be patient with your tree. I think you'll be rewarded in the future!
