Do mums and mammoth mums need to be cut back in the fall?

Wait until the stems and foliage die back in the winter, then cut them away and mulch over the crown of the plant with compost, straw, pine boughs or shredded leaves. In the spring brush away the mulch material and new stems will sprout from the crowns of the plants. Enjoy your mums!
