My gardenia was doing great, then started to yellow and the leaves droop. I watered more and no more yellow leaves but the leaves are still drooping. Itook it out of the pot and the soil is pretty damp so I think I over watered. It is still green. What can I do to salvage it?

The best thing to do for your plant is to allow the soil to dry out slightly. If it refuses to do so because it is over-saturated, repot it in fresh potting soil. If the roots stay too wet for too long, crown rot can occur. Good luck with your plant!
