Last year I planted red Spanish and Thompson grapes. 1 of each plant, 30 feet apart next to a 3 string clothsline. The vines climbed the 3 lines met in the middle overan each other and jumped to the onimential trees and stockade fencing. In June both grapes plants produced fruit which we picked. Now the vines have new fruit growing. We live in Zone 10-11 So.Texas. How and when do I cut back the grape vines??? Please advise |
Vincent, Grapevines sound like they are really enthusiastic growers! The best time to pruning grapes is in late winter prior to the onset of spring growth. However since you have them growing on three string clothesline there is not a really good pruning system because most pruning systems are based on specially designed great trellises. The following website however will provide you with some excellent information on pruning grapes which should be very helpful to you: http://aggie-horticulture.tamu... http://aggie-horticulture.tamu... |
