Answer: If they were my planters, I would fill them with a 50/50 mixture of garden soil and potting soil. This mixture will encourage good drainage and yet be heavy enough to keep the planters upright during a windstorm and provide a good anchor for your plants. If you have a wheelbarrow, fill it halfway with garden soil (or purchased top soil) then mix in an equal amount of potting soil. Then fill the planters, water thoroughly and then plant your annuals.
