The Q&A Archives: What type of soil for planters

Question: I'm a new gardener and I've just put in 2 large raised planters - 16

Answer: If they were my planters, I would fill them with a 50/50 mixture of garden soil and potting soil. This mixture will encourage good drainage and yet be heavy enough to keep the planters upright during a windstorm and provide a good anchor for your plants. If you have a wheelbarrow, fill it halfway with garden soil (or purchased top soil) then mix in an equal amount of potting soil. Then fill the planters, water thoroughly and then plant your annuals. Enjoy!
