When is it a good time to put down topsoil on my lawn? The backyard is uneven due to the dogs digging when they were pups. Now I want to even the yard out. What kind of soil should I use? Thank you, Nancy, Lakewood, WA

Either fall or spring are good times to put topsoil on the low spots and reseed. You can purchase packaged topsoil at your local garden center if you have only a few areas to level or, if you have lots of areas to fill in, purchase topsoil in bulk and have it delivered. If you purchase by the truckload, ask for 3 way mix or 4 way mix. These will contain garden soil, sand, and organic matter. After spreading the topsoil, overseed with perennial ryegrass or fescue.

Best wishes with your lawn!
