George,

Mexican fan palms are easy to care for. Planted it at approximately the same depth was growing in the container and from the soil in around the roots while watering it in well. Build a small raised berm of soil about 4 feet in diameter around the base of the plant. This will serve as a "dam" to help you soak the soil around the base more efficiently when you water. Fertilize with a lawn type fertilizer at a rate of 1-2 cups sprinkled evenly throughout the 10 foot diameter circle around the base of the plant and water it in well. It is best plant palm trees as the weather starts to warm in mid spring but you can plant them now although they may not develop roots much until the weather warms up.
