Answer: While palms require well draining soils, they do not do well in rocky soils so you'll want to amend a large area before planting your palms. I'd dig holes deep and wide, incorporate some organic matter into the soil, then backfill with this amended soil. You can do this now so the soil has a chance to settle during the winter months. In the spring you can dig holes slightly deeper and wider than the nursery containers and plant your Queen palms. The roots will venture out into the amended soil and they should thrive.
