My orange and lemon trees have been fertilized but the leaves are slowly turning yellow. What do they need? |
It is not unusual for the oldest leaves on your citrus trees to turn yellow and fall off. This is normal and natural. However, if the newer leaves are turning yellow, there's a nutrient uptake problem. Aside from the usual citrus food (applied according to label directions), you may need to sprinkle some Ironite around the base of each of your trees. In areas of low rainfall, soils are alkaline and alkaline soils can bind up nutrients without the addition of iron. You can safely use about a half-cup of Ironite around small citrus trees and a full cup around mature trees. Read and follow directions for amounts and frequency of application. Best wishes with your citrus trees! |
