I live in New york, brooklyn. I have a huge backyard that was just seeded in october with commercial grass seed, the lawn looks good and all but there are many bare spots that didnt get enough seed. Is it ok if i add more grass seed now (Nov.27) to help make the lawn, more full by spring? will the seeds grown during this time or should i just seed in early spring (which dates exactly?) My other question is i also want to add flowers to my garden. I want to add annuals and tulips. can i still add them now for them to bloom in the spring? or can i add them in spring? thank you. |
Grass seed will germinate and grow as long as the soil temperature is above 40F. It may be a little late in the year for you to overseed the bare spots but since grass seed is inexpensive, I'd go ahead and try. If it doesn't take, you can always reseed in the spring. Tulips can be planted now and there are a few cool season annuals you can add to your yard - ornamental kale or cabbage, primroses, pansies, for instance. Aside from the above, you should wait until spring to plant. Enjoy your new landscape! |
