In Mexico and Puerto Rico, poinsettias grow outdoors in average soil and full sunshine. In fact, older plants can actually grow 10-15' tall and half as wide. They will go through a natural leaf color change in November and December when days are short and nights are long so no special treatment is required to make them "bloom" for the holidays. Enjoy your poinsettias!
