I have three large California Oaks and very rocky soil. Rats liked living in the ivy, so we tore it out. What flowering plants would grow there? |
The important thing about planting under oak trees is to find plants that like shade, and don't need a lot of water. Be careful not to dig within 10 feet of the trunks of your trees, or you'll injure the roots. Try Cistus (Rockrose), Cotoneaster,or Rosemary as groundcovers. Aloe, Winter-Blooming Bergenia, California Poppy, Heuchera (Coral Bells), Catmint, Salvia, or Romneya coulteri (Matillja Poppy) as perennials in the area. |
