Why wouldn't there be any worms in the soil of my organic garden?

Earthworms should be in abundant supply in garden soil with adequate moisture and organic matter. They often go deep into the soil when the temperatures are cold - perhaps they're still hiding out, waiting for spring to arrive. Or, they may be very small this early in the year and are escaping detection. Wait a few more weeks and then take inventory again - I'll bet you'll find a number of them in your garden.
